Greater Milwaukee Area Translation: All of the people we could get together at an obscure, southside restaurant at noon (because most no longer drive at night) and then some� Distinguished Translation: Which will make you feel old�even if you are younger than your wife who could NEVER be old Philatelist Translation: Oooo! A power word for stamp collector. Award Translation: And a nice plaque it is, too. Presented to Mr. Philately Translation: If we give it to this guy, maybe he will bring his lovely wife and kids to our luncheon. Somehow, without being told, we knew he had excused his wife from attending the annual dinner (which we now hold at noon.) We can�t have that, can we? In recognition and appreciation Translation: Because someone has got to recognize and appreciate the poor guy for visibly and repeatedly Translation: The repeatedly comes naturally because he likes routine. The visibly is a little harder. He would much rather be behind the scenes. demonstrating his interest in the hobby of stamp collecting Translation: What else? The guy belongs to more stamp clubs than his wife knew about before this award, has more exhibits and binders than any human being needs, but need not worry about divorce unless those binders start covering her side of the bed. (She does have her standards---although divorce seems drastic. Torture might be better.) and in developing the interest Translation: Not of his wife. Never of his wife. No one would confuse her with someone who cares about stamps. and enjoyment Translation: Are we having fun yet? of the hobby for others Translation: Whew! They mean the others who come to the stamp shows he helps run, read the web page Day-Hay helped him design, are �victims� of his judging, and watch him collect clubs. They aren�t insisting he has to convert his wife to his cause. CONGRATULATIONS, MR. PHILATELY!
