THE LONG AND SHORTS OF IT

All was going along rather nicely until she got to the shorts. Day-Hay came home from the first day of training to be a counselor-in-training very enthusiastic. They spent time orienting the group to where things at the camp werebut Day-Hays been going there for the past seven years or so and knows where everything is. They spent a lot of time teaching them to start lanyards because the request to start lanyards is the number one request of CITsbut Day-Hay is the queen of the lanyards so she ended up doing some special tutoring at that part. They learned a lot of gamesbut between her years at camp and her years in girl scouts she knew almost all of the games.

Then they discussed the dress code. As Day-Hay knew, they all would get special T-shirts that they would have to wear. The good news was that they would get two of them so one could be washed while the other was being worn. Day-Hay had had visions of trying to get a shirt washed every night. Somehow she knew that her mother might insist that SHE spend a lot of time with the washer if that happened.

The problems was the shorts. For most people, the issue of the shorts would be a minor inconvenience. But Day-Hay is not only petite, she also is very slender. Slim jeans and pants and shorts are often too wide on her and last week we had scoured the stores looking for shorts that would work for this summer. We found someand none of them are acceptable. First, some of them are jeans shorts. Jean shorts do not meet the CIT dress code. Other shorts are the few we could find with real, all-the-way-around drawstrings. Those shorts are the wrong color.

So well be off on another search for shorts. Im not confident at all that we will find what she needs. I may have to make her shorts. Normally, I would not mind making her shorts but I promised her cousin a dress and I want to get the dress done before the whole family gets together in June for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. At the busiest time of the year, I may be sewing up a storm.

Of course, as Mr. Philately pointed out, the smallest shirt they have for CITs probably will be an adult smallin which case it will hang so much that theyll never see the shorts anyway. And thats the long and shorts of it.
